With the Steam Workshop coming to Portal 2, this eliminates much of our need for an actual coder on the team. No, we will not be using the simplified level creator coming with this update, the actual Portal 2 Authoring Tools will still be used. All this means is that you will have an easier time downloading and installing the map pack when they are finished.

However, if you are a coder and would still like to help, there are a few issues that need resolving, though much less dire. Still feel free to contact me.
